ISLAND OF DUGI OTOK

SOLISCICA (44° 09'N; 14° 52'E), spacious bay on the NW coast of Dugi otok; in its SE part is the village of Soline (pop. 124 in 1991).

Approach: Soliscica can be identified from seaward by the round tower (41 m) of the Veli Rat lighthouse (white flashes, visibility 18 M). In the cove is the red tower with a column (white and red light with sectors) on Tanki point and the yellow church in Soline (see Sedmovrace).

Mooring: The bay is sheltered from all winds except the northwesterlies, during which smaller yachts anchor in Lucica cove (some 0.6M northwest of Soline). A good anchorage for larger yachts (depth 2430 m) is some 750m NNW of the church in Soline. During the winds from the SW and NW quadrants Brguljski zaljev (Island of Molat) affords good shelter. The W part of Soliscica is the shallow cove of Pantera, which is sheltered from all winds and waves; in its NW part is a good anchorage (depth up to 16 m). At the head of the bay is the village of Veli Rat (pop. 132 in 1991).

Facilities: Post office in Veli Rat; provisions and water available.

BOZAVA (44° 08'N; 14° 55'E), village (pop. 166 in 1991), small harbour and tourist resort on the NE coast of Dugi otok.

Approach: Landmarks: the white tower with a column and gallery (green light), the chapel on Sv Nedjelja point (pine wood) and the belfry in the village.

Mooring: The harbour is sheltered from all winds and seas except the SE wind and it is recommended to anchor in the Dragove cove (2 M SE of Bozava). Along the N coast there is a landing ground for local passenger ships. Somewhat on the W side there is a breakwater which closes a small harbour (capacity ca. 20 yachts), depth along the breakway is 26 m. In front of the hotel to the south there is a quay; depth 23 m.

Facilities: Harbour master's branch office, post office, medical service, the Bozava hotel complex.

Provisions in local shops; limited water (from the locals or the hotel). Fuel from the pump at the hotel.

Coastal passenger lines: see Zadar.

Sights: Two Illyrian (later Roman) settlements on the nearby hills. Sv Nikola church (St Nicholas, 9 C?, reconstructed) in the cemetery; old garden walls (18 C) near the coast with loop-holes built for protection against pirates.
