"Someone has to row too" – visionary accomplishment with kayaks from Rijeka to Dubrovnik
Posted on Jul 15 2011
On 15th July Nikola Mrđen and Siniša Knežević from Rijeka promote the sport and healthy living by the unseen rowing tour and extend the boarders for those who want to stimulate sport activities, healthy living and touch with the nature that we have forgotten…
These two Rijeka’s sportsmen decided to put an end to the city life rhythm by this adventurous idea to go around the Adriatic in kayaks. “Someone has to row too” which purpose is to promote the healthy living and awake the society remembering it about the natural wealth and beauties of Croatian shore as a prerequisite for further tourism development.
Furthermore, the purpose is to improve the collaboration of Rijeka, Opatija, Crikvenica, Split and Dubrovnik as cities who are included in the “health cities project”, point out Nikola and Siniša. On Explore Association’s web site you will be able to follow their project during their trip which includes the visit to some of the most distant parts of Adriatic islands and all that by following their moving through reading the text and watching the photos as well as through the live streaming that the duo plans to start.
Furthermore, the purpose is to improve the collaboration of Rijeka, Opatija, Crikvenica, Split and Dubrovnik as cities who are included in the “health cities project”, point out Nikola and Siniša.
In accomplishment of this dream helped also Joško Jurković – expert for marketing, Petra Nenadić - photograph and Kristijan Dundović - graphic designer and the sponsors within which is YACHT-Base as well.
The tour starts in Rijeka on 15th July and, without unpredicted disturbances, the project should end on 31st July in Dubrovnik. Some 40 km long routes will be rowed every day starting from Rijeka to Opatija, towards Brseč, then Cres, Lošinj, Ilovik, Olib, Molat and Ugljan, Kornat and Žirje. The eight day they will be rowing to Primošten where they will go for supply of groceries and head towards Vela Muljica lighthouse. The plans for the next day are Šolta, then Brač and Hvar, Korčula, Mljet, Šipan, Lopud and Koločep. The deserved relaxation will occur on their return from Dubrovnik to Rijeka on a ferry boat.
This idea was imagined 3 years ago. 28 years old Nikola Mrđen, the president of the Explore Association is a handball player, runner, swimmer, hiker and fishermen. Siniša Knežević is a 25 years old student at the Faculty of Business Economy, a water polo player, skier, cyclist who likes to do the free climbing and free diving, crossing the boarders of the impossible. He travelled through Europe, India and Africa. They are both instructors on the prevention workshops of the Croatian Red Cross’ Rescue Service. Turning towards the nature, its untouched beauties, towards the sea and sun and to row “as better and as further possible” is their motivation. They plan to register all that with a documentary film as well. Let’s award their wish for cognition and awareness of true and touchable things such as nature by starting to think about the life far from the “powerful technology”…
Good luck boys!
