Croatian Sailors

International Committee for fair play awarded prestigious award "Trophy Pierre de Coubertin" to the Croatian yachtsmen Petar Cupac and Pavle Kostov. Also awarded is their trainer Ivan Bulaja.

Two young sailors in 49er class received the award for lending their sailing boats for the final round to the Danish crew whose boat was damaged by wind. The Danish crew then sailed to win a golden medal in at the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008.

Only half an hour before the start of the race the sail on the Danish boat snapped but thanks to previously unseen and very generous gesture of two young Croatian sailors Danish managed to sail to the Olympic gold in the 49er class.

Interestingly everything was decided only in one phone call that changed seemingly hopeless situation of Danish crew to a golden medal.

Because of the events on that day Croatian Olympic Committee and Danish crew have proposed the Croatian sailing crew for the prestigious award, and the International Committee for fair play agreed, rating the gesture of Croatian sailors as a - more than a victory.
