Kornati or Kornati islands, more commonly known as Stomorski Islands, are situated in northern Dalmatia, i.e. west from Sibenik, in the Sibenik - Knin county. It covers an area of 320 km2 and with its 150 islands and islets make up the densest archipelago in the Mediterranean.
Geographically the Kornati islands can be divided into two main groups: Gornji Kornati which are closer to the mainland, and Donji Kornati, which generally look towards the open sea in the southwest. The archipelago was declared a national park in 1980.
